Seoul nightlife
Seoul is a vast metropolis, where culture pulsates 24/7. The streets of the South Korean capital are never deserted, though they're much quieter in the late morning than at midnight. If you're planning a visit to the South Korean capital, you can't miss its nightlife. You'll find countless venues ready to show you the best of the city after dark. Below, an overview of Seoul's five most exciting neighborhoods after dark.

Seoul's Hottest Nightlife Neighborhoods
Hongdae
Hongdae is one of the world's nightlife hubs. The area, surrounding Hongik University, extends to the neighborhoods of Hapjeong, Sangsu, Sincheon, and near Ewha Women's University, each served by its own subway station. Strolling behind Exit 9 of Hongik Station, you can witness street performers and entertainers who draw crowds both day and night. Hongdae offers countless bars, clubs, and restaurants to suit all tastes. The largest nightclubs are located along the streets connecting Hongik and Sangsu stations, including Cocoon and Noise Basement. For a rock and indie vibe, Gogo's, with its underground club FF, plays music until the early hours. Children's Play Park, in front of the university's main building, is a popular hangout for young people, while revelers can pick up cheap drinks from convenience stores and watch Korean freestyle rap battles.

Gangnam
Made globally famous by Psy's "Gangnam Style," the Gangnam neighborhood is a must-see for every visitor. Near Exit 11 of Gangnam Station, a huge tribute to the hit single draws countless tourists for unforgettable photos. The parallel streets around Exits 10 and 11 are home to most of the area's bars, restaurants, and clubs. Clubs like Mass and Noise Basement (a branch of the Hongdae club) are very popular here. Many local experts also recommend exploring the clubs located in prestigious hotels, which offer an exclusive experience.

Itaewon
Itaewon is Seoul's quintessential international neighborhood, frequented by expats of all nationalities. If you're interested in watching international sporting events, you'll find Irish pubs and American-style sports bars broadcasting live. Itaewon is also the ideal place to sample international cuisine, with restaurants offering authentic dishes prepared by expat chefs, as well as eateries offering Korean and international fusion cuisine. A popular example is Vatos, the Korean-Mexican fusion restaurant, but be aware that you'll have to wait a bit for your food. The area is also home to numerous clubs offering more eclectic musical styles than the EDM typical of other Korean areas.

Dongdaemun
If you tire of spending your evenings in bars and clubs, Dongdaemun offers a different experience: night shopping. In this area, many shops stay open until 3:00 a.m. or later, allowing you to shop late into the night. Popular with Chinese and Japanese tourists attracted by trendy clothing at competitive prices, the area requires bargaining to get the best prices. A distinctive feature of Dongdaemun are the live shows held outside the large shopping malls, where up-and-coming K-pop groups perform for large crowds.

Cheongdam
While Gangnam is known for its upscale vibe, Cheongdam further distinguishes itself as a favorite destination for wealthy young Koreans. This exclusive neighborhood is home to some of Seoul's most luxurious clubs, frequented by a select crowd. Expect to spend more on drinks, but the experience will live up to your expectations, offering sophisticated evenings and an unparalleled luxury atmosphere.
