Weihenstephan is known for being the oldest surviving brewery in the world . In 725, a Benedictine monastery was founded on the Weihenstephan . Brewing began here, and in 1040, the Klosterbrauerei Weihenstephan . In 1803, after being destroyed over the centuries by the Swedes, French, and Austrians, and having been completely burned down four times, the monastery was closed and passed into the hands of the State of Bavaria. However, the brewery was under the control of the Royal Staatsgut Schleißheim and was able to continue producing its beer. In 1852, the Bavarian school of brewing moved from Schleißheim to Weihenstephan , where the art is still taught today.

Founded in 1397, Spaten (whose name means “spade” ) is now part of the Spaten-Löwenbräu-Gruppe , which belongs to the Belgian multinational InBev . Spaten is considered by many Germans to be a palate cleanser between meals.

The Augustiner Keller Munich's third-largest , located just steps from the train station. Open since 1812, it seats 5,000 people under the shade of large, magnificent trees. (Nymphenburger Straße 2, Munich) Löwenbräu (literally “lion beer”) is one of six historic breweries in Munich that produce true traditional Bavarian beer Löwenbräu also complies with the regulations imposed by the Reinheitsgebot . Inside there is a huge hall called the “Festsaal” , capable of seating over two thousand people.
Its large beer garden , the Löwenbräukeller , is adjacent to the main brewery and occupies the site of a brewery destroyed during World War II. The beer garden, located on a tree-shaded terrace, is an unmissable meeting place for many Bavarians. The Löwenbräukeller seats around 1,000 people outdoors and also has a large screen for watching all the major sporting events. The price of a 1-liter mug of beer is approximately 7.80 euros.

Another of Munich's best breweries is the Paulaner Bräuhaus . Founded in the 17th century by a community of monks, the Paulaner brewery became famous throughout the world for the authenticity of its beers, which remains intact today. In 1634, some monks of the order of St. Francis of Paola , guests at the Neudeck , began producing a dark, strong beer, which was to serve as sustenance during the Lenten period. The beer they created was so excellent that in 1780 the Court of Bavaria allowed the monks to sell the beer: the Paulaner Brauerei , destined to become the largest brewery in Munich .
Hirschgarten
(Hirschgarten, Munich) The Hirschgarten is the largest beer garden in Munich : with around 8,000 seats, the beer hall is located inside the Hirschgarten , the deer garden, a former hunting estate commissioned by Prince Karl Theodor in 1780. In fact, in addition to eating and drinking excellent beer, it is possible to observe the deer that live in this park up close.
Bayerischer Donisl
(Weinstraße 1, Munich) Located next to Munich City Hall, the Bayerischer Donisl (named after Dionysius Haertl , who ran the establishment in the 18th century) is one of Munich's historic beer halls . The interior is furnished in dark wood, in keeping with Bavarian tradition. The draft beers served are: Hacker Bräu Edelhell, Paulaner Salvator, and Hacker-Pschorr Braumeister Pils Bayerischer Donisl is currently closed for renovations until December 2015.

(Neuhauser Straße 27, Munich) The historic Augustiner Brewery is Munich's oldest brewery , founded by Augustinian monks in 1328 near Munich Cathedral. After its privatization, Augustiner-Bräu Neuhauser Straße in 1817 , where the headquarters are still located today. The brewery was taken over by the Wagner family in 1829 and then moved to the cellars in Landsberger Straße (“Kellerareal”) . Heavily bombed during the Second World War, the Augustiner Brewery has now been restored to its former glory and has been declared a historical monument.
The place is divided into two parts: the beer hall itself is located on the left, while the restaurant is on the right. At the back is the classic beer garden .
