Bali Nightlife: Spiritual, charming and a surfer's paradise, the island of Bali attracts millions of visitors every year, who come here to savor the laid-back lifestyle, its tropical beaches but also to party all night in. what is now considered one of the best nightlife destinations.
Bali is definitely the most famous of the thousands of islands that make up the Indonesian archipelago . A paradise of calm and relaxation, nestled between long beaches and lush forests, temples, mountains and hills dotted with terraces and rice fields that offer postcard views.
But Bali is famous above all for its hedonistic and fun atmospheres: once a favorite destination for hippies, now the island is frequented by many young surfers and tourists from all over the world, thanks to its proximity to Australia, Japan and Singapore, and in just a few years has become one of the ideal destinations for those in search of nightlife and unbridled fun .
The streets of Bali are teeming with all night bars, beach parties and traditional music venues, making for a perfect paradise for your nights out! Bali's nightlife scene gradually emerges as the sun sets on the west coast of the island : the sun always sets around 6.30pm and it is around 7.30pm, when darkness falls, that Bali's nightlife becomes more intense .
Bali's nightclubs and bars do not have forced opening and closing times and therefore can stay open late, with the music sometimes continuing to play until dawn. However, the party begins well before sunset, with aperitifs on the beach at the various restaurants or in the luxurious beach clubs that offer spectacular ocean views.
The areas with the best nightlife in Bali
Bali's nightlife is concentrated in the tourist areas of the south, between the villages of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak , where most of the nightclubs, restaurants and bars for tourists are located. This area, once filled with coconut trees and rice fields, has developed into one of the most vibrant nightlife spots in the world, with great restaurants, live music, shows and electronic music clubs.
All areas of Bali's nightlife are relatively close to each other. Seminyak is located just 5 kilometers from Kuta and both less than 6 kilometers from the center of Denpasar. Despite this proximity, it can be difficult to move from one place to another. The best option to get around is by taxi, or Uber: we do not recommend traveling by moped at night, as accidents are very frequent in the busiest areas.
Located just 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport , Kuta is the epicenter of Bali's nightlife . A busy beach of golden sand, with hundreds of souvenir shops and endless traffic jams, frequented mainly by Australians, Indonesians and young backpackers under 25 on a tight budget. This is where surfers and visitors come for their first taste of Bali. Cheap accommodation, cheap beers and music around the clock with people from all over the world.
The nightlife of Kuta is always very lively thanks to the presence of dozens and dozens of bars and nightclubs with hilarious dance floors and resident and international guest DJs. The club scene here usually starts late, in most cases around midnight and continues into the wee hours of the morning. The myth of Kuta began in the 1960s, when this village became a favorite base for numerous surfers and penniless travelers who came here to ride Bali's fantastic waves and sleep for a few dollars a night. Now Kuta has become the symbol of excesses and nightlife on the island , crowded with hotels, night clubs and gorgeous bikini babes sunbathing on the beach or by the pool. The beach parties are not to be missed, especially if they coincide with the period of the carnival which takes place in October, with aperitifs at sunset, surfing and cultural events of all kinds.
The busiest areas with the highest concentration of bars are located around Poppies Lane and Benesari Street and are mostly populated by surfers. Kuta Beach Road is dotted with several lounge bars with pools where you can drink and dance in the water and take in the spectacular ocean views.
Located between Seminyak and Kuta, Legian Street is the main street where most of Bali's nightclubs and outdoor venues with commercial music playing all night are located. This is the right area for those who love to dance late into the night, frequented largely by crowds of young Australians ready to gulp down liters of beer. Legian represents a strategic location for your stay in South Bali. It is close to everything and its beach is less crowded than Kuta's. Nightlife in Legian is a rich mix of nightclubs and eateries that stay open late along the main road connecting Kuta and Seminyak. After spending the day relaxing on the beach, you can immediately dive into the lively nightlife after the sun sets.
A few kilometers north of Kuta along the coast you will find Seminyak , with numerous bars and restaurants by the sea with a refined atmosphere and exclusive nightclubs. The Seminyak area is much more exclusive than Kuta, thanks to the high density of private villas and luxury resorts, and the crowd is mostly made up of upper-class Australians, wealthy Jakarta Indonesians, European travelers and expatriates living in Asia, with an average age of between 25 and 45 years. During the week, the area can be quiet, especially on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings. Of course, bars and nightclubs are more expensive, some clubs have an entrance fee on weekends and a dress code. Most of Seminyak's lounge bars and clubs offer elegant interiors and open-air landscapes with sea-view green lawns and pools lined with loungers. Some also have poolside bars, serving a range of high-quality cocktails, martinis, wines, champagnes, and vodkas.
Seminyak nightlife is spread over at least 5 streets: Jalan Oberoi, Jalan Petitenget, Jalan Dhyana Pura, Jalan Double Six and Jalan Batu Belig. Jalan Oberoi is the best street for dining out and partying in Seminyak, while Jalan Petitenget has more elegant venues, including some beach bars and restaurants and trendy nightclubs. Jalan Dhyana Pura is famous for having several small gay-friendly bars, while the Batu Belig area near Canggu is quite trendy and less touristy than the rest of Seminyak.
Frequented mainly by surfers, Canggu's nightlife is lively and offers very informal parties . The village of Canggu has developed tremendously in recent years with the influx of young foreigners looking for a quieter alternative to Seminyak. Canggu indeed has a relaxed atmosphere, affordable accommodation and a close-knit community of hipsters, surfers and Europeans. During the day Alternative Beach , a popular new bar that organizes numerous pool parties, with lots of music, young and beautiful girls.
Denpasar has an underground scene with a local and male crowd. Not really interesting for most travelers. Nowadays, there are no decent places other than karaoke bars and massage parlors where customers are usually local Indonesians.
Although Ubud has a quiet atmosphere at night, some there are a few bars open until 2am in the city center, popular with backpackers and long-stay residents. Once a month, there is a large pool party called Invasion Ubud, the date and location of which are always secret until the event begins.
Peninsula The Bukit Peninsula , south of Kuta, offers wonderful beaches perfect for recharging your batteries and relaxing before getting back on the track. The nightlife of Uluwatu and Bukit mainly reflects the luxury of the five-star resorts that line the coast characterized by a long limestone cliff. Here are a few rooftop bars where you can enjoy a bird's eye view over the island's south coast, along with great drinks, settings and music. There are also a few surf bars overlooking one of the most popular surf spots in Bali. The nights here are less hectic than in Kuta, but there are still some luxurious clubs and beach parties.
Furthermore, along the beach of Jimbaran, you can find numerous bars and small restaurants where you can enjoy excellent grilled fish, which is served on candlelit tables directly on the beach. An ideal place to spend a romantic evening in Bali.
Events in Bali
Bali hosts some unmissable events throughout the year. If you happen to be on the island in March, we advise you not to miss the Bali International Jazz Festival which takes place in Ubud, an opportunity to listen to excellent jazz music immersed in a corner of paradise. For fans of electronic music we recommend two interesting events: the Junction Festival , during which many internationally renowned DJs and artists meet in Bali to play in front of fans from all over the world, and the Dreamfields , a famous electronic music festival that stops every year here on the Indonesian island. In October, however, do not miss the Kuta Carnival , synonymous with beach parties, surfing and non-stop fun!
