Nightlife Bangkok: transgressive city par excellence, the Thai capital certainly occupies the first places in the ranking among the world capitals of night entertainment. With nightclubs and discos for all tastes, the nightlife of Bangkok always guarantees large doses of unbridled, intense and economical fun.
The Thai capital boasts an artistic and cultural heritage of great value but, in addition to its temples and its oriental charm, Bangkok is famous above all for its legendary nightlife , celebrated by the film " Hangover ".
In fact, Bangkok offers one of the best nightlife scenes in the world : every year this metropolis welcomes millions of tourists from all over the world, who come here to immerse themselves in its frenetic and crazy nightlife. It is impossible to be disappointed by the party atmosphere and the endless entertainment possibilities that the city offers.
The capital of Thailand is full of nightclubs frequented by tourists and young Thais, where you can have fun and party every day of the week, until the first light of dawn. The city buzzes with life seven nights a week, with mega-clubs and underground worlds following one another, attracting revelers from all corners of the planet. You can find every niche music movement in Bangkok, from the new wave of EDM flooding the city, to classic hip hop beats and even drum'n'bass. All of this, coupled with the fun-loving crowds and classic Thai charm, makes Bangkok the premier clubbing destination in Asia and one of the most rowdy party cities in the world .
If in the past the nightlife of Bangkok was famous mainly for transgression and unbridled fun in discos and red light districts, today the Thai capital has a much more varied offer for nightlife, capable of meeting every type of traveler, including night markets, river cruises, live music venues, cabaret shows, massages and restaurants found in every corner of the city.
Bangkok also boasts numerous rooftop bars located on the roofs of skyscrapers, from which you can admire the beauty of the city from above. Bangkok's rooftop bars are a great place for an aperitif at sunset or spend a quiet evening , sipping a cocktail and admiring the breathtaking view. The prices of the cocktails are higher and you have to dress elegantly, but it's worth it.
Bangkok River Cruises
Another way to spend the night in Bangkok is to take a night cruise on the Chao Phraya River , such as the Chao Phraya Princess Dinner Cruise , which allows you to dine on board and have a romantic experience. . Most of the cruises in Bangkok take place on refurbished vintage boats and while sailing you will be pampered by the pleasant evening breeze and you will be fascinated by the lights of the city and the temples that are reflected in the river, all seasoned with Thai culinary specialties and notes of traditional music. The cruise lasts a couple of hours, during which you will pass by the temples and main attractions of Bangkok, such as Wat Arun and the Grand Palace. If you want to save money, take the public boats (price around 15 baht), active until 19.00, or the tourist boats (blue flags) which remain operational until 22.00.
Theater and Cabaret in Bangkok
If Bangkok's nightclubs offer entertainment and musical genres for all tastes, even the theatrical scene of the Thai metropolis is no exception and reflects the cultural diversity and tolerance of this people, offering a remarkable variety of shows and performances, from traditional Khon masked theater to folkloric dances, to ladyboy shows.
Among the main theatrical performances in Bangkok do not miss the puppet show of the Aksra Theater , which narrates the myths and legends of the Thai people, the ladyboy cabaret show at the Calypso , with sparkling choreography and interpretations of famous songs alternating with comic curtains. Head to the Patravadi Theater for traditional Thai dance performances - here you can see ballets that combine traditional and modern dance. Finally, the Siam Niramit showcases a unique show that mixes theater with musicals and circus, with the aim of narrating the history of Thailand in 90 minutes.
Thai Boxing Matches
If you are a lover of sport, then you shouldn't miss a Muay Thai match (Thai boxing) which, besides being a real national sport, represents an ancient traditional art. To attend a Thai boxing match in Bangkok you can head to the Boxing Stadium , located near Don Muang Airport , or to the Rajadamnern Stadium . Here every Muay Thai match is seasoned with a very engaging atmosphere, lively fans and live music.
The districts of Bangkok where to go out in the evening and nightlife
Bangkok is a large metropolis and is divided into several districts that offer different types of nightlife, clubs, bars and discos.
The main nightlife area in Bangkok is located along Sukhumvit boulevard and secondary streets called “Soi” . Soi number 11 is full of clubs and bars frequented by tourists and Thais, while in Soi number 4 is the Nana Plaza , one of the three red light districts of Bangkok. Several Go-Go bars are located within a three-storey building that develops around a square: they are famous for being some of the most transgressive nightclubs in Bangkok and offer various forms of entertainment, from ladyboy shows to striptease. Most of the customers who come here are looking for more than a drink and have no plans to leave alone.
Near Asok Station between Sukhumvit Soi 21 and 23, Soi Cowboy is another of Bangkok's red light districts. While it's a popular place for adult entertainment, it can be a good place to spend the evening even for people who aren't looking for some nighttime exercise. There are quieter bars where you can relax outside and watch the movement. Here, in fact, the atmosphere is a little more relaxed and colorful than in the other quarters; the local girls are not too pushy and the drinks are not too expensive. Creativity and high-quality entertainment, including the original “pingpong” shows, contribute to the unique atmosphere of this Bangkok neighborhood.
Made up of two parallel streets that intersect with Surawong and Silom Roads, Pat-Pong is certainly the most touristic of Bangkok's red light districts. Here you will also find a large night market, many restaurants, cafes and a shopping mall located opposite the Skytrain station. Pat Pong is one of the most transgressive areas of Bangkok and it is here that the trend of go-go bars was born. Born as a nightclub, these are very transgressive places where beautiful Thai girls perform between striptease, burlesque and extravagant games with ping pong balls. But Patpong also attracts people looking for a different kind of evening entertainment: the large night market is something of a magnet for shoppers, who can find clothes, accessories, souvenirs and more.
Khao San Road is one of the most popular night areas in Bangkok for backpackers , also because there are many hostels and cheap hotels nearby. There are bars with blaring music, live music and a nightclub, as well as several places to eat, stalls selling cheap clothes and kitschy souvenirs, and massage shops. The offer of clubs is in fact very varied, and ranges from karaoke to rooftop bars to clubs offering Mexican cuisine, rock music and Tequila shots. Khao San Road is an area with a young and lively atmosphere , bustling with Thai vendors, roadside stalls selling grilled and dried DIY cocktail insects, as well as numerous street performers who give the area a carnival look .
Located near the infamous Khao San Road, Rambuttri Village is home to numerous live music bars offering a variety of musical genres, from European and American hits to live bands playing popular songs. Whether it's an ice cold beer, a glass of Thai whiskey with soda, imported spirits or brightly colored cocktails, the bars aim to please everyone. There is a good selection of places to eat and you will still find souvenir vendors and clothes stalls.
One of the areas of Bangkok designated for nightlife is the RCA ( Royal City Avenue ), and it is the area where the main nightclubs in Bangkok . Attracting a mix of high society people, expats and Thai tourists, everyone joins the dance floor to frolic and dance until dawn. Many clubs have fairly strict dress codes, so you need to dress smart enough. Expect fine drinks, booming sound systems, and fantastic lights and lasers. Places here typically stay open late.
Thonglor offers a more elegant vibe than Bangkok's budget-friendly districts , and is home to imaginative wine bars, chic cocktail bars and restaurants. If you want to dance, the area boasts a number of classy clubs frequented by wealthy Thais and foreign visitors. This is one of the trendiest and most sophisticated areas of Bangkok to go out in the evening.
Located near Thonglor, Ekkamai is quickly establishing itself as one of the most popular hangouts among Bangkok's hipsters . The nightlife here is fairly quiet, but if you are looking for a place where you can listen to alternative music, sip a range of craft beers, find great vegan food and mingle with like-minded souls, Ekkamai is the ideal place to spend your evenings in Bangkok.
For a quiet evening head to Chinatown , one of Bangkok's most picturesque neighborhoods. It is not a place to go dancing, but you can find many colorful markets, restaurants overlooking the streets and small shops selling all kinds of souvenirs.
Finally, we recommend a visit to Bangkok's night markets , which represent a typical aspect of Thai culture and many of them are open until late in the evening. A good opportunity to buy unique souvenirs or local products, taste local gastronomic products and listen to live music. The Rot Fai Market located in Srinakarin is dedicated to collectibles and antiques, as well as clothing and street food, while the Rot Fai Market in Ratchada is closer to the center and also offers places to drink with music live, food and stalls selling clothes. The Asiatique , on the other hand, is located inside a department store converted into a market and hosts hundreds of small shops selling all kinds of goods, as well as restaurants, geaterie and bars. Outside there are some rides including a large Ferris wheel ( Asiatique Sky ), on which you can see the city of Bangkok illuminated.
